Thrift Shop Gems

I have an unquenchable thirst for shopping at thrift stores. The explanation for my liking comes in four words: recreation, conversation, distraction, and satisfaction. What do these four words have to do with thrift shopping? Let me explain. Recreation comes from enjoying the hunt for that surprising ornament; conversation comes from conversing with store staff and other frequent shoppers; distraction comes from forgetting about my sometimes hectic life; and satisfaction in restoring and being creative with my discovery. I have been told by a few of my siblings, that I frequent the thrift shops too often, but after they inspect my treasure trove, they find value in my weekly journey, and they hand me their wish list to take along on my next trip.

Most of my tablewares displayed on collards and caviar, I purchased from thrift shops as well as yard sales and estate sales. It amazes me what you can find at these locations. When building your table setting inventory, make sure you purchase enough for the number of guests you plan to invite. Place settings for eight is a good start. Each place setting should include enough china, glasses, and flatware to carry one person through the meal.
